Issue: On one X5 xDrive40i model, a bearing plate for the steering column shaft may not have been properly attached to the vehicle. As a result, the plate could loosen and cause a change in steering control. Safety Risk: A loose steering column could affect steering control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify the owner by mail and instruct them to take the vehicle to a dealer to inspect the steering column shaft bearing plate.
