Details |
On certain vehicles equipped with 6-cylinder diesel engines, the engine control unit may misinterpret a signal in the event of a crash. In the event of a crash, the airbag control unit transmits a signal via the CAN bus network to the engine control unit in order to shut off the engine and fuel pump. Should a crash result in damage that affects the CAN bus, the engine and fuel pump may not be automatically switched off. If a fuel line or hose were also damaged in the crash, fuel leakage might occur, which in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will re-program the engine control unit with new software. Additional information may be available on Transport Canada's website |
