On certain vehicles, the airbag clockspring jumper wire may be oriented in a way that allows contact with the lower horn mounting plate. In this position the wire insulation may chafe, exposing bare copper, and creating the potential for a short circuit. Should this occur, the airbag warning lamp will illuminate, indicating service is required. In some instances, the driver's airbag could inadvertently deploy. Inadvertent deployment in a non-collision (non-impact) situation may create expensive vehicle repair, including replacement of the driver's airbag module. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will install an updated clockspring jumper wire which incorporates a protective mesh cover. Additional information may be available on Transport Canada's website |
