For one brief moment in time, the X1 and the Infiniti EX defined a new segment: luxury subcompact SUVs. This category has exploded since the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Audi Q3. To stay ahead of the new competition, BMW has endowed its X1 with more cargo space under a more conventional-looking body.
