The secret is hidden behind the engine block. It’s difficult to make out in the photo (the journalist may have had a nice Kodak camera, but that couldn’t make up for his lack of talent) but the back of the V8 and the V6 are the same. The arrow is pointing to the spot where one of the two additional cylinders would go in this V6. As a result, the V6 and V8 use about the same amount of space under the hood.
