Statement by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Regarding Headlight Switch Recall for the 2007 Honda Fit
American Honda Motor Co., Inc., will recall approximately 143,083 model year 2007 and 2008 Honda Fit vehicles to avoid the potential loss of low-beam headlight functionality.Due to a problem with the routing of the wiring harness for the headlight control switch, the plating on the wiring harness connectors for the low-beam circuit can become worn after repeated use. Worn plating on the connectors could result in corrosion and cause the connector to overheat and fail, resulting in a loss of low-beam headlight functionality.
The high-beam headlight circuit and function are not affected. No accidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue.Owners of model-year 2007 and 2008 Honda Fit vehicles will receive notification to bring the vehicle to a Honda dealer for inspection. If needed, the dealer will replace the wiring harness terminal, and the wiring harness connector will be secured in place. If any signs of damage in the connector exist, the dealer will replace the headlight switch.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification from Honda that their vehicle requires repair. Notification to customers will start in January 2011.When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end, in addition to contacting customers by mail, after January 2011, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicle requires repair by going online or by calling Honda.
