Chevrolet Officially Unveils Camaro Convertible... Finally!
Camaro compatriots have been waiting a long time for the proverbial other shoe to drop. Although a fantastic car in its own right, the hardtop version we’ve been enjoying is only half of the equation in GM’s Mustang-fighting effort. This is the other half.
Of course, there’s a very good reason why it should take so long. Lopping the roof off of a vehicle can greatly reduce a vehicle’s torsional rigidity, which requires substantial reengineering to rectify. And rectify it GM did, as this new Camaro Convertible is apparently more rigid than BMW’s 3-series convertible.
Under the hood, the same V6 and V8 engine options found in the hardtop ensure it should be pretty competitive with Ford’s Mustang, and the addition of composite knuckles within the soft top system means the roof has a smoother look than the traditional ribbed unit on the Ford.
