Porsche at the 2010 L.A. Auto Show

One world première and two North American premières from Porsche at the L.A. Auto show

Mid-engined sports car will debut alongside 911 GTS and 911 Speedster

At a press conference at 10:55 a.m. on November 17, the Porsche stand at the Los Angeles Auto Show will showcase the world premiere of a new mid-engined sports car as well as the North American debuts of the new 911 GTS and 911 Speedster.

The introduction of the three new thoroughbred sports cars will crown an outstanding year for Porsche in the U.S. market. In studies from the well-known J.D. Power market research institute, customers voted Porsche the leading brand in terms of appeal, quality, and reliability.

With a power output of 408 hp, especially dynamic suspension and decidedly sporty equipment, the new 911 Carrera GTS ascends to the pinnacle of the Carrera model series. The combination of a wide body with classic rear-wheel drive is unique within the Carrera family. Despite its increased power, the new Carrera GTS consumes no more fuel than the Carrera S.

Porsche will also unveil new small series of the legendary Speedster. The two-seater, limited to 356 cars, differs significantly from other members of the 911 family. In the best tradition, the low windscreen, the sporty manual hood, and the characteristic double bubble on the convertible top compartment lid create a striking profile, making its wider rear track stand out even more. The 911 Speedster is fitted as standard with a 408 hp six-cylinder engine, a Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) transmission, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB).

In presenting these three new models, Porsche also honours the praise which its brand and products won from U.S. customers in several studies from J.D. Power. For the sixth time in a row, new-vehicle customers ranked Porsche highest in the APEAL study, with the 911 ranking first among premium sports cars. Porsche also ranked first in the Initial Quality Study and topped the Vehicle Dependability Study.

The J.D. Power ratings prove that Porsche continues to fascinate American customers 60 years after the delivery of its first sports car in the U.S. The first Porsche 356 was shipped to America in the fall of 1950. In addition to displaying it in his showroom on Park Avenue, importer Max Hoffman handed a 356 over to the private racing driver Briggs Cunningham, who, soon after, started to win his first races. The 356 quickly became a favourite on the American racing scene, which contributed positively to Porsche’s success in the U.S. and helped to build its brand image. Today, America remains most important car market for Porsche, with almost 200 Porsche Centres across the country.
