Top 10 Longest-Running Vehicle Designs in 2025
Not all automakers are in a hurry to redesign their vehicles, especially when demand is still strong. Likewise, not all car shoppers want the latest or most cutting-edge products on the market.
With the discontinuation of the Mitsubishi Mirage, Nissan GT-R, Infiniti Q50 and more, plus a redesign for the Toyota 4Runner, Lexus GX and Infiniti QX80, the list of the 10 oldest vehicles on the market—meaning those with the longest-running current generations—has changed quite a bit in 2025. Several Models Dating Back to 2017
The top 10 starts while a large number of vehicles that initially debuted or were last redesigned for the 2017 model year, including the Audi Q7, Cadillac XT5, Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Ridgeline, Jaguar F-PACE, Jeep Compass, Mazda CX-5, Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman.
Volvo XC90
The current-generation XC90 is entering its tenth year, but don’t call it irrelevant in the midsize luxury segment. For 2025, key changes are in store for the gas-powered counterpart of the all-new, fully electric EX90.
Tesla Model X
Introduced for 2016, the Model X is Tesla’s second-oldest vehicle. Although it has changed very little from a visual standpoint, it continues to deliver impressive range and performance. This versatile electric SUV with falcon-wing doors can accommodate five to seven passengers and travel up to 529 km.
Land Rover Discovery Sport
Built on a solid base and featuring an acclaimed four-wheel drive system, the Discovery Sport replaced the older LR2. That was back in 2014 for the 2015 model year. Few changes have been made in the past decade, but luxury customers looking for good off-road capability in a conservatively styled yet distinguished SUV package need to consider it.
Lexus IS
The current generation of the Lexus IS dates back to 2014, with a major update for 2021. Despite having a foot stuck in the past, the compact Japanese sedan continues to win over customers thanks to excellent reliability.
Porsche Macan
Born in 2014, the Macan is living on borrowed time as its fully electric counterpart is ready to take over. Porsche recently confirmed that the gas-powered Macan bows out next year. It’s also considering a brand new SUV that could arrive by the end of this decade and offer both combustion and hybrid powertrains.
Tesla Model S
Believe it or not, the Model S sedan has been around for 13 years now. Styling appears to be stuck in time, but performance continues to rank near the top of the industry. The Long Range model offers up to 660 km of zero-emission driving, while the explosive Model S Plaid delivers 1,020 horsepower.
Dodge Durango
Dodge’s three-row SUV is built alongside the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The latter was redesigned for 2022, but the Durango has been pretty much the same since 2011. It’s still a relatively strong seller, mind you. Stellantis has confirmed that a new generation is in the works. Timing is still unclear, though.
Mitsubishi RVR
Despite receiving a few cosmetic tweaks, the RVR is now having a hard time hiding the fact that its design dates back to the 2011 model year. Very few changes are in store for 2025, but the low price, reliable powertrain and nearly unbeatable warranty still make it a compelling option for some Canadians.
Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana
GM now sells state-of-the-art, fully electric vans (Chevrolet BrightDrop), but the classic Express and Savana are somehow still around. Call them dinosaurs? Heck, they both date back to 1995. They are available in Passenger (up to 15 seats) and Cargo (payload up to 4,280 lbs) configurations with a choice of V6 and V8 engines.
