Ford to Expand Off-Road Lineup With Explorer Tremor
When we listed 10 vehicles that need an off-road model last fall, one of them happened to be the Ford Explorer. Obviously, the company doesn’t lack options when it comes to tackling dirt, but the three-row midsize SUV sadly lost its Timberline model as part of a mid-cycle update for 2025.
Ford needs to fix this. And as it turns out, we won’t have to wait that long.

Taking a page from the F-150 and Maverick pickups, a new Explorer Tremor will soon join the lineup based on the teaser above, which Ford posted yesterday. You can easily recognize the Explorer’s rear-end design, not to mention the name appearing in the middle of the liftgate.
Expect a slightly more rugged and better equipped SUV than the late Explorer Timberline. Following the lead of the full-size 2025 Expedition Tremor, it could ride on 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires and a beefed-up suspension increasing ground clearance. Raptor-style running boards, a front skid plate and tow hooks could be part of the mix, too, along with a Rock Crawl mode and the trail equivalent of one-pedal driving.
As for motivation, Ford could stick with the turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower or go bold with the twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 that puts out 400 horsepower. (The former seems more likely.) An official debut will take place in the coming months, so stay tuned.
