Buying a brand-new vehicle or a completely redesigned model in the first year of a new generation is always risky as quality problems are more likely to occur. Oh sure, the manufacturer's warranty is there to protect you, but the experience can still be frustrating. It's best to wait a year or two until the engineers can fix most of the early issues.
Some of the problems that can occur early in a generation compromise safety and therefore require a recall. We've scoured Transport Canada's database and identified 3-year-old or newer models (MY2022-2025) that have been hit with the most recalls to date.

Here are 10 vehicles you should beware of:
Ford Maverick (2022-2024)

Number of recalls: 23
Latest recall: The 12V battery may be defective. As a result, the engine could stall or not restart after a start-stop event and the hazard lights may not work. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the 12V battery.
Jeep Grand Cherokee (2022-2024)

Number of recalls: 14
Latest recall: A software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the display. Dealers will update the rearview camera module software.
Volkswagen ID.4 (2022-2024)

Number of recalls: 12
Latest recall: After shifting into reverse or manually activating the parking function, the rearview camera image may not display. Dealers will replace the camera control unit.
Toyota Tundra (2022-2024)

Number of recalls: 11
Latest recall: The passenger-side front and rear tires may have been damaged during vehicle assembly. This could cause a sudden loss of air pressure and result in a tire failure. Dealers will inspect and replace the affected tires.
Audi e-tron GT (2022-2024)

Number of recalls: 10
Latest recall: There could be a problem inside the high-voltage battery. As a result, the battery modules could overheat and short circuit. As an interim repair, dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the high-voltage battery modules. Once the final repair is available, dealers will install an advanced diagnostic software that will monitor the high-voltage battery and warn you if it detects a problem.
Mercedes-Benz EQS (2022-2024)

Number of recalls: 10
Latest recall: A software problem could cause the main contactors for the high-voltage battery to open. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels. Dealers will update the battery management system software.
Mazda CX-90 (2024)

Number of recalls: 9
Latest recall: There could be a software problem with the dash electrical supply unit. As a result, the windshield defroster, the seat belt reminder sound and tell-tale, the 360-degree view monitor and high-voltage battery cooling system may not work properly. Dealers will update the dash electrical supply unit software.
Lucid Air (2022-2024)

Number of recalls: 9
Latest recall: The wiring harness for the rear drive unit may be too short and could disconnect. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels. Lucid Service Centres will replace the rear drive unit wiring harness.
BMW i4 (2022-2024)

Number of recalls: 9
Latest recall: The beam that supports the left-rear wheel arch may be cracked. As a result, the strength of the vehicle structure could be reduced in a crash. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the left-side support beam.
Mitsubishi Outlander (2022-2024)

Number of recalls: 9
Latest recall: A software problem could cause the rearview camera image to not appear on the display screen. Dealers will update the display software.
