Next-Generation Ford F-150 to Be Delayed, Report Claims
Electric vehicles aren’t the only ones being delayed by automakers, but this story isn’t about waning EV demand. It actually involves the best-selling nameplate in Canada and the U.S.
The next generation of the Ford F-150—15th overall—will apparently be pushed back by about a year. That’s what Ford told suppliers according to three executives at three different companies who spoke with U.S. publication Crain’s Detroit Business under condition of anonymity.

Introduced for the 2021 model year and updated for 2024, the current F-150 was expected to be fully redesigned for 2027. However, it now looks like its replacement won’t arrive until mid-2028.

Ford is refusing to comment on this report, so we can’t know for sure if it’s actually true and what the official reason for the delay might be. Clearly, market and regulatory uncertainties combined with auto tariffs to be implemented by the new Trump administration are forcing the Blue Oval to do some math and reconsider certain decisions.
The immensely popular and profitable F-150 is manufactured in Dearborn, Michigan and Kansas City, Missouri but uses a number of parts and materials from Canada (including Quebec-sourced aluminum for the body), Mexico and overseas.
Ford has previously said it wants to reduce development and production costs by limiting the number of parts and orderable F-150 combinations, a process that involves not only the automaker but also its suppliers, obviously.

The F-150’s sizable lead over rivals when it comes to sales admittedly gives Ford more time to launch the next generation. On the other hand, this wouldn’t be business as usual—the full-size truck is typically redesigned every 5-6 years (except for the 10th generation that lasted from 1997-2004). For the record, GM’s new Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras are due next year as 2027 models.
Last summer, Ford also pushed back the replacement for the F-150 Lightning to the second half of 2027 as it made significant adjustments to its EV plans.
