Kia EV5 Confirmed for Canada, U.S. to Skip
It’s pretty rare for automakers to sell vehicles in Canada but not in the U.S. Some examples include the late Nissan Micra and Mercedes-Benz B-Class. Kia is about to add another one to the list, namely the EV5 compact crossover.
Initially introduced in March of 2023, this all-new model will join the South Korean manufacturer’s growing lineup of all-electric vehicles, which already includes the larger EV6 and EV9, with the little EV3 slated to arrive in a few months.

Canadian pricing has yet to be announced, but Kia claims the budget-friendly EV5 will help bring electrification to the masses.
“Upon launch, EV5 will mark an important milestone as we introduce this vehicle as an affordable option that meets the needs of today’s modern consumer in what is Canada’s most significant segment,” says David Sherrard, Director of Strategic Planning at Kia Canada.

Strong Family Ties
Looking at the EV5, there are striking similarities with other Kia EVs, such as the signature front grille and Star Map lighting. In the rear, the taillights are connected by a light bar as seen on more and more vehicles across the industry. The fairly large rear spoiler is not just for show, Kia assures—it actually improves aerodynamic performance and maximizes range in the process.
Three different wheel designs, ranging from 18 to 20 inches in diameter, are available. In addition, the EV5 offers as many as eight body colours including new Magma Red and Glacier Blue.
Inside, drivers face a huge panoramic display that stretches nearly 30 inches. Passenger space was a big focus of designers, too, with generous headroom and legroom making for comfortable trips.

Nice Selection
We’re still waiting for the full specs, but we can tell you that the EV5 comes with a choice of two batteries (60.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh) and both FWD and AWD configurations. One more thing: an NACS connector will allow direct access to Tesla’s Superchargers, with no adapter necessary.
The Kia EV5 will make its national public debut at the 2025 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto (February 14-23). Sales will begin sometime in 2026, although it’s not immediately clear whether the EV5 will arrive as a 2026 or 2027 model.
