Stunning, Batmobile-Style Renault Concept Aims to Set Efficiency Records

A week prior to Retromobile 2025 in Paris, Renault is introducing a spectacular concept called Filante Record that serves as a futuristic take on the legendary 40 CV des Records (1925-1926), Nervasport des Records (1934) and Etoile Filante (1956).

The goal? Maximizing energy efficiency and setting a new record for power consumption and range with an 87kWh battery similar to the one found in the Renault Scenic E-Tech.

Standing 5.12 metres long and just 1.19 metres tall, and weighing less than 1,000 kg, the Filante Record is a single-seater with a streamlined, extremely aerodynamic body finished in Ultraviolet Blue, a new shade that looks blue or violet depending on the reflections of light and the viewing angle. Suspension and wheel fairings are another eye-catching detail, contributing to a monolithic appearance while playing a fundamental role in aerodynamic performance.

"We designed this vehicle as a sculpture in motion. Inspired by fighter planes and the speed records of the nineteenth century, it reflects both performance and timeless elegance,” says Sandeep Bhambra, Director of Advanced Design at Renault. “Every inch of the surface was crafted to capture the light and showcase the body lines, which appear to melt into the air. The blue windows and colour palette further underline this light and airy impression. The design as a whole seeks to convey an impression of flow and lightness."

Aluminium, carbon and steel alloys were optimally combined in order to minimize component cross-sections while maintaining maximum strength. This includes scalmalloy, a high-strength aluminium alloy specially designed for 3D printing. The company also explains that the visible screws on the bodywork are inspired by aircraft construction techniques to not only make the car lighter but also give it a contemporary, high-tech look.

Let’s not forget the 19-inch Michelin tires, which were specially designed to deliver pure performance while also maximizing range, with almost a 40-percent reduction in rolling resistance.

Top Gun

The cockpit of the Filante Record is inspired by aviation and space travel. In this pared-down environment, each component or system is located within easy reach of the driver, with a design geared towards ergonomics and weight reduction.

For example, the single, hammock-style seat is made from stretched canvas for a lightweight design with optimum support. It perfectly adapts to the body shape of the driver and is supported by thin carbon blades clad in a technical textile, resulting in a driving position reminiscent of F1 cars.

The integration of the controls and instruments reflects a flowing, minimalist approach. Each function is displayed on an ultra-thin digital screen. As for the steering wheel, if you want to call it that, its handles control acceleration, braking and steering using fully electronic steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire technologies. In the middle is a flexible panoramic screen wrapped around a cylinder that provides essential data such as speed, range and driving parameters.

What Next?

Powertrain specs are not disclosed at this point. Renault engineers plan to conduct wind tunnel tests this spring in order to confirm simulation results and to make any adjustments necessary to perfect the Filante Record’s design for optimal aerodynamic performance. After that, we assume they’ll head to a track for real-word testing.

Renault says the concept simultaneously previews a range of technologies that will be studied for use on future production vehicles from the French brand. Don’t miss our photo gallery at the top of the page for more shots of the stunning and incredibly cool Filante Record.
