17,000 Honda, Acura Vehicles Recalled in Canada for Fuel Injection Issue

An electronic issue with the fuel injection system is forcing Honda to recall nearly 300,000 vehicles in the U.S. and around 17,000 in Canada.

Affected models include the 2023-2025 Honda Pilot as well as the 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type S  and 2021-2025 TLX Type S, all of which feature a V6 engine.

Due to improper programming of the Fuel Injection Electronic Control Unit (FI-ECU), sudden changes in the throttle could illuminate the check engine light and cause the engine to lose drive power, hesitate and/or stall, Honda says.

The company self-diagnosed this issue by monitoring telematics information and determined that a supplier part is involved. It has not received any confirmed reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue so far.

Registered owners of all affected models will be contacted by mail starting in February and asked to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the FI-ECU software at no cost. In the meantime, you can find out if your vehicle requires repair by visiting either Honda’s recall website or Acura’s.

Back in December, Honda recalled just over 12,000 vehicles in Canada, including the latest Pilot once again, due to a fuel filler pipe that may not have been connected properly to the filler neck. As a result, the connection could separate in a crash and fuel could leak. Dealers need to inspect and, if necessary, reposition the fuel filler pipe to fix this problem.
