Acura RSX to Return as Sporty Electric Crossover, Enter Production in Late 2025

Acura is preparing to revive another name from the past. Following the Integra and ZDX, the lineup will expand with the addition of an all-new RSX.

But wait, it won’t be a small, affordable and gas-powered coupe this time. Instead, look for a sporty crossover that ushers in the Japanese luxury brand’s next generation of electric vehicles.

Previewed by the Acura Performance EV Concept during Monterey Car Week last summer, the future Acura RSX will be the first model engineered on the new Honda-developed EV platform and mark the launch of the new proprietary ASIMO OS operating system that was recently introduced at CES 2025.

Based on the pictures of a camouflaged prototype released today, it’s hard to tell how big the RDX is compared to the ZDX. However, the former boasts a rounder and more athletic silhouette. Also, the body sides are more sculpted, particularly the front doors, and the door handles are flush with the body.

In the rear, the taillights are slimmer and span the entire width of the vehicle.

“The return of the iconic Acura RSX nameplate is a tribute to its past, reminiscent of the original’s sleek coupe-like design but now with electric power that keeps our commitment to precision crafted performance intact,” said James Marchand, Assistant Vice President of Acura Canada. “The RSX follows the ZDX as our second battery-electric SUV as we continue to entice new enthusiasts to our brand.”

The company this week began development testing in real-world conditions using prototypes similar to the one shown above. No details were provided about the powertrain or battery, which will be entirely developed by Honda rather than borrowed from General Motors, as is the case with the ZDX.

The 2026 Acura RSX will also be the first product to come out of the new Honda EV Hub in Ohio, which is scheduled to begin production later in 2025. Sales are expected to start in the first half of next year.

In the meantime, Acura will launch the highly anticipated 2025 ZDX this spring as an entry-level subcompact SUV sharing its turbocharged engine with the Integra. This new model will be cheaper than the best-selling RDX, although pricing has yet to be announced.
