Alfa Romeo Fights to Stay Relevant With One More Special Edition

Alfa Romeo sold fewer than 900 vehicles in all of Canada last year, with the Giulia and Stelvio both plunging 41 percent. The Italian brand was saved by the Tonale (+6 percent), but the future doesn’t look rosy, let alone golden—despite what the newly announced Intensa special edition may suggest.

"From legendary cars like the 33 Stradale and Giulia to our unforgettable triumphs in F1 and DTM, Alfa Romeo's legacy is defined by iconic Italian design, performance and passion," said new Alfa Romeo North America boss Christine Feuell. "The Intensa Special Series captures this spirit with its bold two-tone design, honouring the intensity that makes Alfa Romeo a global icon."

Highlights include black alloy wheels with a light-gold diamond-cut finish and exclusive black brake calipers with light-gold Alfa Romeo signature. On the Giulia and Stelvio, an Italian flag adorns the side mirrors. Meanwhile, the Tonale Intensa adds Gloss Black mouldings and Dark Miron accents on exhaust tips (chrome-plated exhaust tailpipes on Tonale PHEV).

Inside, the black-clad seats and dashboard feature tan contrast stitching. Ditto for the leather-wrapped steering wheel. Alfa Romeo and Intensa logos are embroidered on the front headrests and front centre armrest, respectively.

Customers will also find a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, 8.8-inch touchscreen (Giulia, Stelvio) or 10.25-inch touchscreen (Tonale), 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and power sunroof. The sedan and the larger of the two SUVs get sport pedals, too.

Prices are as follows (including $2,195 freight and PDI):

Tonale Intensa

$56,190

Tonale PHEV Intensa

$68,190

Stelvio Intensa

$73,190

Giulia Intensa

$71,190

As a reminder, another special edition called Tributo Italiano is also available for the 2025 model year. What’s more, the three vehicles in the lineup now come in a single trim level replacing the Sprint, Ti and Veloce (not to mention Quadrifoglio) for simplified ordering. That being said, several options and packages can still be specified, one of which just happens to be called Veloce.

Will Alfa Romeo’s Canadian sales bounce back in 2025? We honestly doubt it, unless parent company Stellantis seriously does something about those high prices. The same could be said about other brands, as well.
