Ford Announces Pair of Head-Turning Mustangs for Enthusiasts, Select Customers

On the eve of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford announced two new  Mustangs broadening the appeal of the iconic pony car, including a highly exclusive one.

Let’s start with the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, which pays tribute to “the American spirit of ingenuity and courage in the face of challenge” that recently helped the 2025 Mustang GTD become the first car from an American automaker to lap Germany’s famed Nürburgring in less than seven minutes.

Ford Design created a Performance White body with twin racing stripes in Race Red and Lightning Blue, mimicking the iconic red, white and blue Mustang tribar that debuted in 1964. The stripes run the length of the Mustang GTD Spirit of America’s body. Meanwhile, exposed carbon fibre is used for the front splitter, as well as the rear diffuser and spoiler. That spoiler includes Race Red end plates and a “MUSTANG” wordmark on the underside.

Race Red brake calipers and the Mustang GTD Performance Package come standard, too. Inside, the package-specific seats are leather-trimmed with suede-like Dinamica inserts. While Onyx Black features prominently, red, white and blue accents and stitching further evoke American patriotism.

No modification is made to the engine, so the same 815 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque can be found under the hood. The Mustang GTD Spirit of America is available to order now for approved applicants in all Mustang GTD markets. That includes Canada or, as some would call it, the 51th U.S. state.

Mustang RTR

The other new model announced by Ford last night is a Mustang RTR developed in a collaboration with two-time drift champion and RTR Vehicles president Vaughn Gittin, Jr. Sharing performance parts with the V8-powered Mustang Dark Horse, this car is actually based on the turbocharged four-cylinder Mustang EcoBoost and will open up the performance aperture to more customers, especially first-time track enthusiasts.

Alas, the exact details have yet to be specified.

“I'm pumped to have the opportunity to create what we believe is the most exciting turbocharged Mustang ever,” Gittin, Jr. said. "This Mustang RTR is pure accessible fun, with many enhancements, including Mustang Dark Horse components, Mustang EcoBoost’s near-perfect weight distribution, and RTR’s signature styling. It’s ready for drifting, drag racing, back-road cruising or ripping around an autocross track.”

Aesthetically, the Mustang RTR stands out with Hyper Lime Brembo brake calipers and a Dark Carbonized Gray pedestal spoiler. The body is covered in special camo for now as the official introduction will take place later this year.

A Ford Canada spokesperson has confirmed to The Car Guide that the Mustang RTR will be available north of the border. We’ll keep you posted.
