Top 10 Most Expensive Auction Cars Sold in 2024
Over the past five years, the annual number of vehicles sold in online auctions globally has climbed more than 450 percent. They will surpass live auction sales for the first time by as much as $25 million USD in 2024, according to Hagerty.
The American car insurance and valuation company expects online auctions across all platforms to exceed $2.19 billion.

Despite all that, the top 10 car sales of 2024 still came from live auctions. We don’t want to keep you waiting any longer, so here they are (prices in US dollars):

- 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Lungo Spider sold for $14,030,000 by Gooding & Company in Pebble Beach, CA; USA
- 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider sold for $12,985,000 by RM Sotheby's in Monterey, CA; USA
- 1903 Mercedes-Simplex 60 HP Roi des Belges sold for $12,105,000 by Gooding & Company in Amelia Island, FL; USA
- 2014 Pagani Zonda LM Roadster sold for $11,086,250 by RM Sotheby's in Dubai; UAE
- 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Alloy Coupe sold for $11,003,281 by RM Sotheby's in Paris; FRA
- 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Aluminum Gullwing Coupe sold for $9,355,000 by RM Sotheby's in Los Angeles, CA; USA
- 1979 Ferrari 312 T4 sold for $8,245,201 by RM Sotheby's in Monaco; MON
- 1969 Ford GT40 Lightweight Coupe sold for $7,865,000 by Mecum Auctions in Monterey, CA; USA
For the record, the most expensive car in an online sale this year was a 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari, which was sold for $4.2 million on PCARMARKET. Many of those that follow traded hands on Bring a Trailer.
“Overall, we’ve seen a leveling off of the market, and we expect mid- and lower-range cars to continue to perform well online while the top end of the market does best at live auctions and in private sales,” said John Wiley, Director of Valuation Analytics at Hagerty.
