It’s Official: Honda Prelude to Launch in Canada in Late 2025
Honda is officially greenlighting the Prelude concept that made its global debut at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show and later popped up in Los Angeles. The production model will launch in Canada late in 2025.
Unlike the previous five generations—the first dating back to 1978 and the last one discontinued in 2001—the sixth-gen Prelude will be sold exclusively as a hybrid when it arrives as a 2026 model.

“The Honda Prelude has a storied history, joining Civic and Accord as one of the first three products in our lineup in the 1970s. Its return will put a nostalgic smile on the faces of those that have fond memories of this iconic car,” said Emile Korkor, Assistant Vice President at Honda Canada.
In terms of styling, the new Prelude will closely resemble the aforementioned concept (pictured above alongside the original), taking Honda design in a different, bolder direction, especially up front.
We’ve also learned that the Prelude will mark the debut of S+ Shift, a new drive mode that “further advances Linear Shift Control to deliver maximum levels of driver engagement.” It will be a way for Honda’s continuously variable transmission to appeal to drivers who usually prefer manual gearboxes.
The powertrain is expected to be shared with the Civic Hybrid, naturally, although specs such as power and torque will be revealed at a later date.
As Honda celebrates 25 years of hybrid sales in North America (the first-gen Insight led the way in December of 1999), the company can brag about achieving record electrified vehicle sales in 2024, which now represent more than 30 percent of its total sales.
