Jeep Recon EV Spotted Again, Interior Revealed Ahead of Official Debut

Initially announced in September 2022, then shown in concept form in March 2023, the Jeep Recon was supposed to become the brand’s first electric SUV in North America, entering production in 2024. That didn’t happen. The honour went to the larger Wagoneer S instead.

So, what gives? For unspecified reasons, development has taken longer than expected. Jeep is still doing tests on public roads in Michigan, as we found out this week. New shots of a prototype with little to no camouflage were recently taken by a spy photographer and posted on the Jeep Recon Forum. We’ve included a couple of them below, and more in the photo gallery at the top of the page.

The exterior is essentially identical to what we’ve previously seen. The front grille and rear pillars are the only things hidden under camo here, although we know what they’ll look like. The exposed hinges for the removable doors are on full display.

In case that wasn’t immediately clear, the Recon is largely inspired from the Wrangler, which explains why many people are more interested in it than in the Wagoneer S. Remember, Jeep said it has the capability to cross the challenging Rubicon Trail, making use of a Selec-Terrain four-wheel drive system, e-locker axle technology, under-body protection, tow hooks and aggressive off-road tires.

These latest pictures are the first time we see the Jeep Recon’s interior, which sports electric blue accents like the exterior. Part of the cabin is still covered and testing equipment lies around, but the entire dashboard comes into view. There’s a Wrangler-like grab bar on the passenger side and a large touchscreen in the middle, with physical HVAC controls in the lower part of the interface.

In front of the octagon-shaped steering wheel is a smaller display for the instruments. Interestingly, the latter shows a range of 147 miles (236 km) with 66 percent of the battery remaining, which would mean 223 miles (356 km) with a full charge. We bet the Recon’s official range will be longer than that.

One more thing: the centre console has a knob-style shifter alongside a red panel with the terrain mode switch. “Rock” and “Mud” are visible, but there’s inevitably a few more to choose from.

The Jeep Recon has been confirmed to use Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, which also underpins the Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger Daytona. When will it make its official debut? At this point it appears set for an early-2025 reveal, unless more delays occur. Keep following The Car Guide to stay in the loop.
