2025 Nissan Versa: Here’s How Much Canada’s Cheapest New Car Costs

The 2025 model year could very well be the last for the Nissan Versa, the only remaining subcompact car in Canada following the discontinuation of the Mitsubishi Mirage and the cheapest new vehicle you can buy right now.

The 2025 Versa comes in three trim levels starting with the base S at an all-inclusive price of $23,406—undercutting the 2025 Hyundai Venue by roughly $380.

What do you get for that kind of money? Well, you’ll have to settle for 15-inch steel wheels, manual climate control and no heated seats. The 7-inch infotainment touchscreen is not compatible with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but it does come with Siri Eyes Free and Google Assistant, not to mention hands-free text messaging.

With Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 as standard, all Versa models feature Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Automatic Braking and High Beam Assist. Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Intelligent Driver Alertness are reserved for higher-end models, while only the top trim gets Intelligent Cruise Control.

The mid-grade SV (starting at $25,156) adds 16-inch alloy wheels, heated seats, automatic climate control, a 7-inch driver display, wireless smartphone charger and 60/40 split-folding rear seat, among other things.

Meanwhile, the top-line Versa SR (starting at $26,556) further stands out with a dark chrome front grille with SR badging, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, rear spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, SR-specific seating fabric and Prima-Tex leatherette instrument panel trim with orange accent stitching. It also offers remote engine start, an 8-inch touchscreen and 6-speaker stereo.

The Nissan Versa, by the way, features a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine producing a modest 122 horsepower in exchange for 6.8 L/100 km, making it one of the most fuel-efficient non-electrified vehicles on the market.

Curiously, the larger and more powerful Nissan Sentra (149 horsepower) is even better at a combined 6.6 L/100 km. The compact sedan retails from $26,494 for 2025, but that’s with the manual transmission. A CVT-equipped S Plus model ($27,169) is what you need to burn as little fuel.
