Yeah, Baby: Austin Powers’ Shaguar Could Be Yours

You need to take a serious trip back in time if you want to talk about Jaguar in a positive way these days. The once-glorious luxury car brand, which now only sells the F-PACE crossover, has to completely reinvent itself in order to survive. This includes a new logo, new branding and new philosophy called “Exuberant Modernism,” as revealed this week, but the public’s reaction so far has been mostly bad.

Well, let’s all leave that stuff aside and focus on something cool, shall we? This 1967 Jaguar E-Type roadster finished in a blue and red Union Jack motif definitely fits the bill. You certainly remember it from the three Austin Powers movies, in which it earned the nickname “Shaguar.” Guess what? It’ll be up for sale at Mecum’s Kissimmee auction down in Florida on Jan. 18, 2025.

Incredibly, there was not a double car produced for these films. Only this one was used, meaning it was driven by the colourful spy portrayed by Mike Myers along with his leading ladies—as verified by authentication letters from the Picture Car Coordinator Josh Hancock and the owner of Cinema Vehicle Services who prepared and maintained the car for all the movies, Ray Claridge.

Held as part of a private collection since the movie series ended, the car was occasionally loaned to Jaguar Land Rover for special company events and even a restoration in the mid-2000s. It was also featured in the Madonna music video, Beautiful Stranger, along with Myers.

A comprehensive mechanical update was recently performed in order to ensure the 4.2-litre inline six-cylinder engine and four-speed manual transmission are still in proper shape. Disc brakes can be found at all four corners, while the odometer tells us the car has logged nearly 64,000 miles (just over 100,000 km).

Care to predict the winning bid? Dr. Evil would probably say “one million dollars,” but we’ll see. Don’t miss the photo gallery at the top of the page for a closer look at the Shaguar.
