Watch Out for Rear Wheels That May Lock Up While Driving, GM Warns
Full-size pickups and SUVs from General Motors are being hit with a new recall because their rear wheels may lock up suddenly and could cause a loss of control while driving.
More specifically, affected models include the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD, 2021 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, 2020-2022 GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD, as well as 2021 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL equipped with a diesel engine.

Just over 52,000 units are part of the recall in Canada.
The guilty part here is the transmission control valve, which could wear over time and lose pressure. If this happens, the transmission could shift harshly and could cause the rear wheels to lock up, according to the recall notice posted by Transport Canada.
General Motors will notify owners by mail in the coming weeks. A visit to a dealership is required to update the transmission control module software in order to detect excess wear in advance of a wheel lock up. If detected, a service engine light would turn on, a message would display in the instrument panel and the vehicle would be limited to fifth gear.
Back in mid-September, all of these large SUVs and pickups—this time from the 2023-2024 model years—were recalled to fix an electronic issue involving the braking system.
In some cases, if the brake fluid level drops below the minimum threshold, a software problem could cause the warning lamp not to turn on. The driver wouldn’t be aware that the brake fluid level is low and that braking power could be reduced, thus increasing the risk of a crash.
A little over 38,000 units in Canada were part of that recall.
