2025 Lexus LX Adds Hybrid Powertrain Option, Overtrail Model
The Lexus LX is by far the largest and most luxurious SUV in the Japanese brand’s lineup, yet after all these years it’s still missing something, namely a hybrid powertrain. Well, that won’t be the case anymore. For the 2025 model year, Lexus is introducing the new LX 700h.
Riding on an updated and reinforced GA-F platform, the electrified SUV combines a powerful electric motor with a twin-turbocharged 3.4-litre V6 and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The pairing delivers a total of 457 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque, which is 20 horsepower more than the Toyota Sequoia with equal torque.

The nickel-metal hydride battery is located under the cargo floor in two-row configurations and underneath the rear bench seat in three-row configurations.
Interestingly, this is the first Lexus hybrid system to feature both an alternator and a starter as standard components. In the event the hybrid system is inoperative, the starter enables independent engine ignition, while the alternator powers the 12V auxiliary battery, allowing the vehicle to continue driving using only the engine.
By the way, the LX 700h can tow up to 8,000 lbs, exactly like the gas-powered LX 600 (409 horsepower, 479 lb-ft of torque).
Overtrail +
The other big news for 2025 is the addition of an Overtrail + model with features and equipment that will take drivers and their families farther away from paved roads. You’ll recognize this one with an Earth (tan) exterior colour and matte grey front grille on the outside, and Black or Stone Brown semi-aniline leather trim inside.
The package includes front and rear locking differentials, 33-inch all-terrain tires on robust 18-inch wheels, a front skid plate, black overfenders and more including a 2,400W AC inverter and all-weather floor liners.
The Overtrail + model is available on the LX 700h exclusively and can be specified as a two- or three-row configuration.
What Else is New for 2025?
For 2025, the LX lineup offers five massage options for the driver and front passenger seats when equipped with semi-aniline leather trim. Whether you’re looking for a full body massage or targeting a specific area, the intensity can be adjusted across five different levels.
Furthermore, all models now come standard with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which boasts a plethora of driver assistance features. However, only the LX 700h offers Advanced Park assist.
The 2025 Lexus LX goes on sale in Canada this winter. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
