Volvo Confirms Several New Products Coming Within Next Two Years

Volvo’s top brass met with American and Canadian dealers earlier this week to go over their plans to launch 10 new or updated models within the next two years, as several U.S. media outlets report.

Some of them are already known, such as the brand new EX90 three-row electric SUV and the refreshed 2025 XC90. There’s also the 2025 EX40, essentially a rebadged and improved XC40 Recharge, and the smaller 2025 EX30, whose launch is being delayed due to newly imposed tariffs on Chinese-made EVs.

What about the others? A midsize electric sedan called ES90 and a midsize electric crossover called EX60 have been confirmed for North America. The former will go up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i5 but should remain a low-volume model.

The EX60, kind of like a battery-powered variant of the XC60, should attract significantly more customers. It will be the first Volvo to ride on the upcoming SPA3 platform and will utilize next-generation, higher-efficiency electric motors developed internally. The battery, meanwhile, will be a higher-density pack enabling longer range than what is currently offered with other Volvos.

The Swedish automaker also plans to launch new, extended-range plug-in hybrid models. Look for an evolution of the existing XC90 and XC60 but the same SPA1 architecture, which Volvo assures is flexible enough to be upgraded for longer-range applications.

Earlier this month, Volvo said it would not meet its 2030 goal to be fully electric, scaling back its target to between 90-100 percent. The company cited "a slower-than-expected rollout of charging infrastructure, withdrawal of government incentives in some markets and additional uncertainties created by recent tariffs on EVs in various markets."

"Full electrification remains a key pillar of Volvo Cars' product strategy," it said, but that would not be possible by 2030 due to "changing market conditions and customer demands."
