BMW X5 Turns 25 in Canada, Celebrates With Special Edition

The BMW X5 has been one of the most popular midsize luxury vehicles in North America since the first unit rolled off the line in Spartanburg, South Carolina on September 1, 1999. In fact, nearly 3 million X5s have been sold over the past 25 years.

To mark this milestone, BMW Canada is launching a 2025 BMW X5 Edition 25 Jahre that is exclusive to the Canadian market with a limited production run of 250 units.

The vehicle is based on the entry-level xDrive40i model, which features a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine producing 375 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. Two exterior colours are available, both taken from the BMW Individual Manufaktur portfolio. Oxford Green II Metallic and Le Mans Blue Metallic were selected due to their significance to the first-generation X5. The former comes with a Coffee Sensafin interior and Fineline Stripe Brown High-Gloss Trim, while the latter is paired with a Silverstone Sensafin interior and Poplar Grain Anthracite Brown Open-Pored Trim.

Black accents usually reserved for X5 models equipped with the M Sport and M Sport Pro packages darken the trim on the window surrounds, roof rails, fender-mounted Air Breathers and the standard illuminated grille, which is flanked by Shadowline headlights. Meanwhile, distinctive 21-inch wheels in Orbit Grey serve as an homage to the 18-inch alloys that were available on the original X5.

The X5 Edition 25 Jahre further stands out with BMW’s xOffroad Package. Via the Driver Experience Control switch on the centre console, the driver can choose between xSnow, xSand, xGravel and xRocks modes. The system then adjusts the vehicle’s ride height, transmission shift strategy, throttle mapping, traction control and other parameters accordingly to deliver the optimal profile for the terrain.

In addition to the two-axle air suspension, the package also includes a mechanical rear differential lock, underbody protection plates, a special xOffroad View in the centre display that informs the driver about ground clearance, roll tendency and the inclination or downhill gradient of the terrain, as well as an xOffroad camera that provides views of the terrain from all angles at speeds below 36 km/h.

Inside, the BMW Curved Display is powered by the BMW Operating System 8.5 and enhanced by the Digital Cockpit Professional, which adds a full-colour head-up display and augmented-reality navigation.

The 2025 BMW X5 Edition 25 Jahre starts at $102,500—a premium of $15,400 over the standard X5 xDrive40i—and will be available in Canadian dealerships this fall. By the way, for just $3,600 extra, you could land a much more potent and faster X5 M60i xDrive equipped with a twin-turbo V8 that produces 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Think about that.
