Lucid Teases Future Tesla Model Y Rival
Despite delivering more cars in the first eight months of 2024 than it did in all of 2023, Lucid continues to struggle with cash. Oh, it’s not as bad as Fisker, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, but things will need to get a lot better sooner rather than later.
Currently limited to the Air luxury sedan, the California-based electric car company has high hopes for the Gravity SUV, which should attract many more potential customers. It is scheduled to enter production in Arizona later in 2024.

This week, Lucid announced that the Gravity will be equipped with a NACS charging connector starting in 2025, allowing access to 15,000+ Tesla Superchargers across North America. Incidentally, maximum range is claimed to exceed 700 km.
Smaller and Cheaper Lucids Coming in 2026
Speaking of Tesla, Lucid has previously disclosed plans to launch more compact and more affordable vehicles later in the decade in a bid to rival the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, in particular. We now have a clue as to what one of them will look like.
These vehicles will be based on Lucid’s upcoming midsize platform and powered by a next-generation drive unit called Atlas, which is still in development and undergoing extensive testing. They’re slated to start production in late 2026.
The teaser above shows a crossover with a rounder and sportier silhouette than the Gravity’s. The headlight and taillight signatures will likely be similar. We can also see a contrasting roof.
The key will be pricing. Lucid keeps talking about a starting price under $50,000 USD. For the record, the Model Y starts at $44,990 south of the border and $53,990 in Canada, plus applicable fees.
