Michael Jordan-Owned SLR McLaren 722 is Worth Four Modern SLs
Michael Jordan or LeBron James, which one do you rank as the best basketball player of all time? We’re not here to fuel the debate. One thing’s for sure, both have made a fortune playing in the NBA, endorsing products and thriving in other business ventures.
They’ve also owned quite a few high-priced cars over the years. The former once purchased a rare 2007 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition, and it’s now for sale through TBTFW, a premium used car dealer down in Miami. The listing puts the car at $649,995 USD, which is around $878,000 CAD at the current exchange rate—the equivalent of four 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4MATIC+ roadsters.

The German automaker built just over 2,100 units of the SLR McLaren from 2003-2009. Few are more valuable these days than this limited edition, which is a nod to the ‘722’ starting number of Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson at the 1955 Mille Miglia—except for the Stirling Moss Edition, of course.
Similar to the regular SLR McLaren, the 722 Edition packs a supercharged 5.4-litre V8. The difference is that it generates 641 hp and 605 lb-ft of torque instead of 617 hp and 575 lb-ft. According to Mercedes-Benz, 0-100 km/h acceleration is achieved in 3.6 seconds. On a track, the car can sprint from 0-200 km/h in 10.2 seconds.
Also part of the package are unique 19-inch wheels, larger brakes and a new carbon fibre front splitter, not to mention a lighter weight.
Jordan owned one of the 150 SLR McLaren 722 Edition models that came out of the factory, and it was finished in Crystal Antimony Grey with a black leather interior where carbon fibre and red stitching are prominently featured. By the way, the wheels are aftermaket alloys and not the original ones.
It’s impossible to know how much the Chicago Bulls star drove the car, which has logged a total of 15,100 miles (approx. 24,300 km) to this day. Just browse through the photo gallery at the top of the page for a closer look.
Back in August 2020, an opulent 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 Lorinser that belonged to Jordan also went up for sale.
