Can-Am Canyon : The More Rugged Three-Wheeler
In addition to the recently launched Pulse and Origin electric motorcycles, Can-Am has unveiled a special version of its Spyder three-wheeled vehicle: the Canyon.
Following the automotive trend of “rugged” versions of family SUVs, the Quebec-based manufacturer has given the Spyder a bolder look, along with 16 cm ground clearance - compared with 11.5 cm for a Spyder F3.
The radiator grille is now made of metal with small holes for improved protection against debris, and the drive belt also receives extra protection. The footrests have been redesigned to offer greater grip, and the suspension has been raised and given greater travel. To give you an idea, maximum travel peaks at 260 mm at the front, compared with 129 mm for the Spyder F3.
The engine chosen is obviously the same as the rest of the range, which is a 115-hp 3-cylinder unit. The 6-speed semi-automatic gearbox (with reverse gear) has also made its way into this Canyon variant. Four driving modes can be selected by the driver: All-Road, Normal, Rally and Sport.
In the front, a large screen serves as the instrument cluster and receives Apple CarPlay as standard. An adjustable windshield (with glove compartment) and hand guards are also standard. Finally, the vehicle is equipped with the LinQ system, which includes 21 different attachment points. Three versions of this new rugged Can-Am will be available: Canyon, Canyon XT and Canyon Redrock. The XT model stands out thanks to a metal skid plate in front, a more advanced air suspension at the rear, aluminum panniers, heated grips and a more comfortable seat with a backrest for the passenger.
The Redrock adds a semi-active suspension capable of better anticipating terrain thanks to additional sensors, the same panniers as the XT but body-coloured, a rearview camera and an additional mode enabling a customized ride (with adjustable ABS/anti-skid, suspension, engine and steering parameters).
Prices start at $30,999 for the basic Canyon and climb to $40,499 for the Redrock. If you're interested in these three-wheeled adventurers, you can already pre-order them on the manufacturer's website.
