Cadillac Opulent Velocity Concept: Experience the Electrified Performance of the V Series

Cadillac introduced today the Opulent Velocity Concept which represents the future of electrified performance, luxury and technology at Cadillac. The idea was to design a vehicle incorporating two opposing dynamics: opulence and velocity.

“Opulent Velocity is inspired by the dynamic design cues of motorsports in a 2+2 aerodynamic body form,” underlines Magalie Debellis, manager, Cadillac Advanced Design. Basically, it refers to the V-Series.R hybrid racing cars who competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In terms of design, the EV receives an illuminated grille following the brand’s other electric vehicles such as the Lyriq, the Celestiq or the Escalade IQ. According to Cadillac, the elegance is accentuated by the luminous signature of the headlights, taillights and grille. All these elements feature fluted-look details imitating crystal. The exterior is coated in a light Gilded Pearl hue and was chosen for its elegance.

The Luxury of Time

The spacious interior includes a clean and uninterrupted flow enabled by wrap around draped surfaces that move from the rear to front. The materials and color choices have been designed to reproduce artistic finishes, while the Selene interior color (dark blue metallic) references its dynamic capabilities on the track.

Heading out for a long journey? Cadillac has integrated a level 4 semi-autonomous driving technology as part of the concept's advanced driving aid package. This implies that the vehicle will be able to drive completely autonomously if certain conditions are met. In addition, occupants will be able to enjoy an immersive experience thanks to three multisensory modes promoting respite and which are accessible through the multimedia system.

To do this, Cadillac explored scientific knowledge on sound and light waves during the development phase. By leveraging data, the brand created a sophisticated hands-free environment by integrating artwork, entertainment and mood lighting.

High performance

Conversely, the Velocity mode allows to experience the sensations of a hypercar. Once activated, the steering wheel and the pedals will present themselves to the driver. The concept’s front seats saddle the cantilevered Y-shaped console and are mated directly to the door, this helps secure the driver for high-speed maneuvering.

On track, the driver benefits from a range of technologies to tackle the circuit and improve lap times. Data and road overlays are projected through the augmented reality heads-up display. In addition, the driver can modify parameters related to aerodynamics and suspension dampening settings. Worthy of the latest driving simulator, a Ghost Car will be conceptualized in the dashboard and will help the driver optimize his racing line and apex points.

“Opulent Velocity is an experience-based design study,” said Bryan Nesbitt, executive director, Global Cadillac. “It's the future vision of luxury performance, incorporating Cadillac’s leadership in hands-free driving capabilities, electrification and performance excellence.”
