2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is a Modern-Day Street Truck From the Factory

It turns out those rumours and spy shots foreshadowing the launch of a street variant of the Ford Maverick were not lying. As part of a mid-cycle update for 2025, which we told you about yesterday, the automaker is adding a sportier model inspired by the slammed trucks that were popular from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s.

Aimed at a whole new crowd, the Maverick Lobo is the complete opposite of the off-road- capable Maverick Tremor and the efficiency-focused Maverick Hybrid at the same time. It’s also not unlike the special build by Tucci Hot Rods that drew praise at the 2021 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Riding on an on-road-tuned suspension, the new pickup’s ride height is a half-inch lower in the front and more than an inch lower in the rear compared to the standard Maverick, while roof height is approximately 0.8 inches lower. Next, steering is tuned like that of a performance car, torque vectoring is achieved through a twin-clutch rear drive unit, and bigger, enhanced brakes with dual-piston front callipers come in from the Focus ST sold in Europe.

Ford engineers have also developed a new Lobo drive mode that improves cornering performance, grip and stability, helping to minimize understeer. It is meant only for closed courses because it activates the truck’s torque while reducing ESC intervention—kind of like the Mustang’s Track mode.

Furthermore, the team has upgraded the cooling system using the larger radiator and fan from Maverick's 4K towing package along with a transmission oil cooler. The 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine under the hood is the same unit that produces 238 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque (down from the 2024 model's 250 hp and 277 lb-ft), but the eight-speed autobox has been replaced by a seven-speed mixer also from the Euro-spec Focus ST.

As for styling, highlights include a unique front fascia, painted rear bumper and rocker mouldings. These elements contrast with a black-painted roof and saucer-style, 19-inch black wheels. In the cabin, you’ll find Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching, a graffiti-inspired overprint on the seats as a nod to street culture, plus the “Lobo” name embossed into the black driver and passenger seats.

Ordering for the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo begins today, with deliveries starting in early 2025. Canadian pricing has yet to be announced.
