Audi Kills Two-Door A5 Models for 2025

Earlier this week, Audi announced its 2025 lineup for North America and a few models were noticeably missing. We’re talking about the A5 Coupe and Cabriolet including their sportier S5 and RS 5 siblings.

That’s right: the only body style that remains is the five-door Sportback, available in A5, S5 and RS 5 trim with output ranging from 261-444 horsepower. Content and packaging have been slightly revised in the process.

Remember, Audi introduced the two-door A5 for the 2008 model year to complement the A4 sedan. The A5 Cabriolet followed two years later. The A4-A5 duo went on to enjoy tremendous success over the past decade, positioning itself among The Car Guide’s most award-winning vehicles with a “Best Buy” nod in the compact luxury car segment every year from 2020-2024.

The A5 Sportback, which launched on this side of the Atlantic when the second-generation A5 arrived in 2018, is obviously the more accommodating and more practical configuration with two pairs of side doors, a large hatch in the rear and 495 litres of trunk space (versus 309 litres in the coupe and 263 litres in the cabriolet).

For the 2026 model year, Audi will continue to rename its models, using odd numbers for gas-only models and even numbers of electric ones. The next-gen A4 sedan that’s on the way will become the new A5 in the process. Incidentally, it will be the first Audi to ride on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture.

The Car Guide was recently invited by the company to take an exclusive first look at the car in Munich. Come back on July 16 to learn more and read our impressions.
