BMW to Reportedly Axe Pair of SUVs From Lineup

With BMW having recently introduced a new generation of the popular X3 compact SUV, the focus turns to its coupe-like sibling, the X4. However, as it turns out, company officials have just told Motor1 Italy that the model will not return. When we asked BMW Canada about it, a representative said the company was unable to confirm this information at the moment.

The reasoning is simple. First, sales are too modest to keep it alive. Also, the smaller X2 has grown in size as part of the 2024 redesign and pricing has gotten closer to the X4, too. It even delivers up to 312 horsepower in M35i xDrive trim.

Alternatively, those looking for something larger and more powerful but not content with the new X3 can always turn to the X6.

We have yet to find out when BMW plans to stop building the X4 exactly. That should come soon enough, though. Remember, deliveries of the 2025 BMW X3 are scheduled to begin this fall.

In related news, the ultra-expensive and polarizing BMW XM—the only SUV that’s exclusive to the M performance division—also appears ready to ride off into the sunset. Industry sources have told Automotive News that production of the hybrid-only model will end in November 2028, with no replacement in sight.

Per CarBuzz, a U.S. spokesperson for BMW has since responded by saying no official decision regarding the fate of the XM has been made yet.

Meanwhile, the German automaker is busy working on the next generation of BMW electric vehicles based on the Neue Klasse platform. At least six different EV models are projected to launch within the next four years, and it’s possible that a coupe-like crossover will be one of them.
