New 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid is Cheaper Than Equally Potent Civic Si
Honda has announced Canadian pricing details for the updated 2025 Honda Civic, with half the lineup now featuring a gas-electric powertrain.
The entry-level Civic LX and Sport, which use a 158-horsepower engine, carry an all-inclusive price of $29,493 and $33,353, respectively. Both are $650 more expensive than similar 2024 models, which sounds fairly reasonable, but if you think about it, we’re getting dangerously close to a future where not a single Civic can be purchased for less than $30,000 before tax.

The exterior of every 2025 Honda Civic is enhanced with a new, more aggressive front fascia and grille, as well as new darker taillights. There are three new colours to choose from including Solar Silver Metallic, Urban Grey Pearl and Blue Lagoon Pearl, plus new USB-C ports up front.
Game-Changing Hybrid Power
As is the case with the Accord and CR-V, Honda’s hybrid technology is applied to the more upscale Civic models, namely the Sport Hybrid at $35,248 and Sport Touring Hybrid at $38,748. The first one is actually $2,335 cheaper than the sporty Civic Si (2024), which will receive an update of its own for 2025, while delivering identical power.
We’re talking about 200 horsepower along with 232 lb-ft of torque (an increase of 40 lb-ft over the Civic Si). The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is paired with two electric motors and a continuously variable transmission. Selector paddles on the steering wheel allow four levels of regenerative-braking deceleration.
The electrified Civics have an estimated fuel consumption rating of 4.8 L/100 km and 4.9 L/100 km, respectively, which represents an improvement of just over 2 L/100 km from the conventional Civic Sedan.
Here’s how rivals of the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid compare on paper:
- 2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid - 139 hp, 195 lb-ft, 4.7 L/100 km, starting at $30,506
- 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid - 138 hp, 4.7-5.3 L/100 km, starting at $29,567
- 2024 Toyota Prius - 196 hp, 4.8 L/100 km, starting at $40,527
Another thing you should know is that Honda engineers have uniquely tuned the Civic Hybrid’s springs and dampers, fitted specially designed tires and made the cabin the quietest of any Civic ever. Inside, the top-line Sport Touring Hybrid further stands out with the Civic's first integration of Google built-in.
Production of the new 2025 Civic Hybrid sedan begins this month in Alliston, Ontario, with the first units arriving in dealerships soon. The refreshed Civic Hatchback, also available as a hybrid, will launch later this summer.
