Beware of These Dodge SUVs and Ram Trucks With Faulty ABS

Stellantis is recalling well over 200,000 vehicles in North America and other markets, including 17,462 in Canada, to fix a problem with their brakes.

Affected models include the 2022 Dodge Durango, Ram 2500HD and Ram 3500HD, more specifically units built from April 2021 to December 2022.

According to the recall, the anti-lock braking system (ABS) on some of these SUVs and pickups may start to malfunction, compromising braking performance and therefore the safety of occupants. What’s more, it’s possible that electronic stability control will fail to intervene properly when needed, further increasing the risk of an accident.

Fortunately, the remedy is a simple software update to the ABS module. Affected owners will receive a notice by mail around mid-summer, but you can always check out the automaker’s recall website to get more details and determine if your vehicle is on the list or not.

Last year, Stellantis recalled more than 340,000 Ram Heavy Duty pickups equipped with a Cummins turbo-diesel engine globally, including nearly 22,000 in Canada, because they could potentially catch fire. That’s because the intake air heater relay could short circuit, even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition switch is in the off position.

Given the risk of a fire, as negligible as it may be, the automaker recommends owners to park their truck outside and away from other vehicles or buildings until the recall repairs are completed.
