1969 Camaro RS Z/28 Owned by Paul Walker Needs Love, Goes to Auction
Late actor Paul Walker, who died in 2013 while riding shotgun in a Porsche Carrera GT driven by his good friend Roger Rodas, continues to live through his passion for cars.
See this poor 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS Z/28? Believed to be one of the final projects the duo was working on, it will cross the block at Mecum Auctions’ Monterey event in California this summer (August 15-17).

The heavily rusted and discoloured coupe, which retains few traces of its original LeMans Blue paint, comes with various records attesting that it belonged to Walker and Rodas for a while before being sold to a noted Chevy collector and later winding up at Solo Speed Shop in the Golden State. The odometer reads 22,639 miles or approximately 36,400 km.
As you may remember, the Camaro was largely redesigned for 1969, keeping only the hood and trunk of the 1967-1968 models (which are equally coveted by enthusiasts). The RS package included, among other things, a unique black-painted grille with concealed headlights and headlight washers. This particular example lacks a rear spoiler and cowl hood, suggesting it was an early-production car.
The 302-cubic inch (4.9-litre) DZ V8 was designed for the track and mated to a four-speed manual transmission and Positraction rear end. GM rated it at 290 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque, but in reality it was more potent than that. Just like the exterior, the engine could definitely use some TLC.
As for the all-black cabin, the leather seats appear to be in surprisingly good condition. The Hurst shifter makes for a cool joystick.
