2025 Ram 1500 RHO Takes Off as TRX Successor

As part of the many changes to the Ram 1500 lineup for the 2025 model year, the almighty TRX featuring a 702-horsepower, supercharged HEMI V8 is going extinct and making way for the all-new, six-cylinder Ram 1500 RHO that debuted today.

It’s no ordinary six-cylinder, of course. We’re talking about the high-output variant of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre Hurricane, producing 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque. Sure, power is way down from the TRX, but it still trumps other off-road pickups like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2, GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X, Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and Ford F-150 Raptor (save for the Raptor R).

Mounted behind a unique grille and bulging hood with a massive air intake, the Hurricane engine saves 150 lbs and optimizes weight distribution, the automaker points out. It’s mated to a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time all-wheel drive system. We’re waiting to see the fuel consumption ratings (ditto for other 2025 Ram 1500 models), but beating the TRX’s 19.8 L/100 km won’t be hard.

Obviously, the sound doesn’t even compare to that of the supercharged V8, but the Hurricane in the Ram 1500 RHO benefits from a dual exhaust system with huge 5-inch tailpipes. As for acceleration, Ram claims a time of 4.6 seconds to go from 0-60 mph (97 km/h), which is just a tad slower than the TRX.

Now, if we look at some of the components that make this truck an off-road beast, the beefed-up chassis incorporates a long-travel suspension with adaptive Bilstein dampers and forged aluminum front control arms. A set of 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels is available, while the tires are 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territorys.

All of this results in 11.8 inches of ground clearance (we’d wish for a little more, honestly), as well as approach, breakover and departure angles of 31, 22 and 25 degrees, respectively. Water fording height is up to 32 inches (81 cm).

Finally, let’s talk about the cabin. Similar to many other 2025 Ram 1500 models, there’s a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster along with an available 14.5-inch vertical touchscreen. The latter and the 10.25-inch passenger-side display are powered by Uconnect 5.

The list of features and gadgets is pretty extensive, and check out the special plaque on the centre console: it not only provides engine specs and VIN info, but also shows a rhino next to the model’s name. RHO seems to be a reference to the tough African mammal (and the internal codename for the project), as the company denied it’s an acronym for “Ram High Output.”

How much? The outgoing TRX retails for $119,670, but the new 2025 Ram 1500 RHO is barely more affordable starting at $112,945 plus freight and PDI. It is available to order now with the first deliveries scheduled for this summer.
