2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE Goes to the Other Extreme

In addition to a new four-cylinder entry-level model to complement the original V8-powered unit, the second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT will go to the other extreme with an almighty 63 S E PERFORMANCE model. The German automaker made the announcement today just a few hours before the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Shanghai.

Like every other car wearing the “E PERFORMANCE” badge, this one combines the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 with a rear-mounted electric motor and F1-derived technologies to form an absolutely electrifying hybrid setup.

With 805 total horsepower and up to 1,047 lb-ft of torque, no other AMG GT has ever been that explosive, as evidenced by the rapid acceleration to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and the top speed of 320 km/h.

Power is expertly controlled and distributed by a fully variable though rear-biased AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, while the chassis maintains remarkable balance and agility thanks to the AMG Active Ride suspension with active roll stabilization and active rear-axle steering.

The 400-volt AMG high-performance battery, which benefits from an innovative, high-tech coolant that flows around all 560 cells and cools them individually, leverages expertise from the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. Because this 6.1kWh battery is always in the optimal temperature window of approximately 45 degrees, energy recuperation can also be optimized. Charging takes place via the car’s 3.7kW on-board AC charger at a charging station, wallbox or household socket.

Eight AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive modes are available. In addition to “Comfort,” “Slippery,” “Sport,” “Sport+,” “RACE” and “Individual,” drivers can choose “Electric” (range is not specified yet) or “Battery Hold.” Selecting any of these modes is possible via the central display or better yet the steering wheel buttons.

When it comes to the design, the active aerodynamic elements grab most of the attention. For example, a carbon fibre panel hidden in the underbody in front of the engine automatically lowers by approximately 1.6 inches at a speed of 80 km/h, creating a Venturi effect that sucks the car onto the road and reduces front axle lift. In the rear, the retractable spoiler is seamlessly integrated into the trunk lid and changes position depending on the driving situation.

We’d also like to highlight the aerodynamically optimized 20-inch AMG wheels in Tantalum Grey that are fitted as standard. Other 20- and 21-inch wheels in a variety of designs and finishes are available as options, along with AMG performance seats featuring integrated headrests and ventilation openings in the seatbacks.

The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT carries an all-inclusive price of $173,002 in 55 4MATIC+ trim (base MSRP of $155,000 plus fees and additional charges) and $220,919 in 63 4MATIC+ trim. Pricing for the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE will be announced closer to its Canadian launch in late 2024.
