Exclusive Confirmed: BMW M5 Touring to Land in North America in 2025
The wicked wagons that we’re lucky to have here, including the Audi RS 6 Avant and Porsche Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo, will face a new rival next year—the BMW M5 Touring.
While in Lisbon, Portugal to test drive the redesigned 2024 BMW X2, The Car Guide’s Antoine Joubert has learned from Domagoj Dukec, head of design at BMW, that the next-generation M5 will be sold in North America in both sedan and wagon body styles.
It’s expected to be the only variant of the 5 Series with a long roof on our shores. A camouflaged prototype was caught doing tests in the streets of Los Angeles earlier this winter, by the way.
BMW Canada spokesman Jean-François Taylor reached out on Tuesday night and clarified that Canadian availability is still up in the air. Could the car be sold in the U.S. only? We'll see.
The new BMW M5 Touring will be the first to feature a hybrid powertrain—a plug-in hybrid, to be exact—combining the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine with an electric motor just like in the BMW XM. Output remains unspecified for now, mind you. The XM generates 644 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, but the Label Red model gets a boost to 738 horsepower and 738 lb-ft. It also uses a 29.5kWh battery and offers an estimated range of 50 km.
An official introduction should take place later this year. Keep following The Car Guide for more details as soon as they become available.
