Podcast: The Real Reasons Why GM is dropping Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Mercedes-AMG CLE 53, Kia EV9 Test Drive

On this 22nd episode of The Car Guide Podcast, LP and Gab talk about talk about the reasons why General Motors is moving away from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto infotainment suites in favour of an in-house system built in collaboration with Google (Google Built-in). The manufacturer stipulates that compatibility with newer driver assistance systems and safety were the main reasons for dropping the popular systems. Mike Himche, executive director of digital cockpit experience at GM told Reuters that "we have a lot of new driver assistance features coming that are more tightly coupled with navigation and we don’t want to design these features in a way that are dependent on a person having a cellphone."

However, our hosts are convinced that, while the safety and compatibiliy concerns are valid, there are many other possible reasons GM would do such a move.

LP unwraps the new 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 and, our hosts discuss what they would like to see/are looking forward to in the next few years in the automotive world.
