Beware of Front Seat Belts in the New Honda Accord and HR-V

Honda once again has to recall vehicles due to potentially faulty seat belts. This time, the latest-generation Accord midsize sedan and HR-V small crossover from the 2023-2024 model years are affected, including nearly 22,000 units in Canada.

Basically, the seat belt pretensioner(s) may be missing a rivet in some cases. As a result, they may not work properly in a crash, thus increasing the risk of injury.

The recall notice specifies that only the driver's side pretensioner could be affected on Accord models. On HR-V models, both the driver's and passenger's side pretensioners could be affected. Honda will notify owners by mail in the coming weeks. Following an inspection at the dealership, the seat belt pretensioners will be replaced if a rivet is missing.

Last March, the Japanese automaker recalled approximately half a million vehicles in North America, including just over 52,000 in Canada, to fix seat belt buckles for the driver and front-passenger seats that could wear over time and may not latch securely.

The recall affected the 2018-2019 Accord, but also the 2017-2020 CR-V compact SUV, 2018-2020 Odyssey minivan and 2019 Insight hybrid sedan. The 2019-2020 Acura RDX compact SUV from Honda’s luxury brand was also part of the recall.

Make sure you read our reviews of the new Accord and HR-V to find out if either one could be the right choice for you and your family.
