2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban: Updated Technologies and More Powerful Diesel
Chevrolet has unveiled its new full-size SUV lineup for the 2025 model year. The Tahoe and Suburban receive a mid-cycle refresh, with new front and rear end design, a more powerful diesel engine and updated onboard technologies.
No word on the new GMC Yukon just yet, but the latter should logically get the same cosmetic and technological enhancements also for 2025.

Physical changes are subtle on both vehicles. Chevrolet redesigned the headlights, positioned the fog lights closer and revised the front grille, which is different for each SUV. The skid plate has also been modified, and ground clearance on Z71 models was increased. Moreover, two new body colours (grey and blue) have been added to the palette.
On the sides, buyers can choose from five new wheel designs measuring up to 24 inches on RST and High Country models. It remains to be seen how much these massive wheels affect comfort. And if you need winter tires, you might be in for a surprise when you see the bill.
In terms of chassis dynamics, Chevrolet says the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban offer a more responsive steering, revised suspension tuning for improved ride quality and available adaptive suspension with magnetic control shock absorbers.
More Than 300 hp for the Diesel Engine
Under the hood, the most significant change involves the diesel engine, which is now more powerful and torquey. While the current inline-six claims 277 hp and 460 lb-ft, the 2025 models deliver 305 hp and 395 lb-ft. The 10-speed automatic gearbox is standard across all trims.
Will the increased performance negatively impact fuel economy? It is too early to tell since fuel consumption ratings have not been announced yet. As a reminder, the diesel engine in the Tahoe and Suburban currently achieves 10.2 L/100 km in AWD configuration.
Furthermore, fans of off-road SUVs will be delighted to learn that the Duramax engine is now available on Z71 models.
More Technologies
In order to follow the current high-tech trend, Chevrolet has added more technologies in its new vehicles, starting with expanded availability of Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving assist on LT and RS models.
In front of the driver, the brand new instrument cluster displays driving and vehicle information. Meanwhile, the infotainment system uses a new 17.7-inch centre screen fitted with the latest version of GM's software. The Chevrolet PR team explained to us that it was important for the engineers to maintain a good mix of physical and touch-based controls. And we agree! Keeping a row of buttons and rotary knobs for the HVAC system is always a good idea. The buttons for the transmission have also moved to the steering column in the form of a lever.
Similar to Tesla’s Sentry Mode, the new Tahoe and Suburban include security cameras around and inside the vehicle (13 views). With the mychevrolet mobile app, the SUVs can record footage when someone tries to break into the vehicle, for example. The 30-second clip is then sent to the cloud, which could later help police with their investigation. It is also possible to monitor what is going on inside the vehicle in real time, like when you want to spy on your teenager who borrows your truck...
Full-size SUV buyers love towing capacity, and the Suburban delivers with 8,200 lbs, while the Tahoe is rated at 8,400 lbs. Chevrolet has added new systems to assist drivers with towing. The navigation system can also make their life easier by calculating the best routes and reducing fuel consumption as much as possible.
According to General Motors, production of the refreshed and upgraded Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban will start near the end of 2024. Both vehicles will be sold as 2025 models.
