112,000 Mazda3, CX-3 Vehicles Recalled in Canada, Backup Camera Again to Blame

Another week goes by and another automaker is announcing a recall due to some issues with the rear-view camera in its vehicles. This time it’s Mazda.

More specifically, the 2014-2018 Mazda3 sedan and hatchback (covering the entire third generation) and 2016-2021 CX-3 crossover are affected, representing just over 112,000 units in Canada.

According to the recall notice posted by Transport Canada, a problem with the rear-view camera connector could cause distortion or flickering of the camera image on the centre display, compromising the driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up and increasing the risk of a crash.

Mazda will inform owners by mail in the coming weeks. However, the corrective actions for this recall are still under development and are expected to be available in late fall only. A second letter will be sent at that time.

The 2018 Mazda3 and 2019 CX-3 were also part of a group of six Mazda models that were recalled in 2021-2022 to fix a potentially faulty fuel pump that might cause the engine to run rough, lose power or not start. A total of more than 20,000 cars were said to be at risk.
