Podcast: 2024 Subaru Impreza RS and 2024 2024 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance Test Drives
On the latest episode of The Car Guide Podcast, LP and Gab go over their driving impressions on the 2024 Subaru Impreza RS and 2024 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance. Mercedes-Benz's most posh model, the S-Class, gets the latest hybrid performance bits in the 63 E Performance with plug-in hybrid capability. But as Gab underlines, the hybrid architecture isn't focussed on efficiency. With 791 horsepower and 1,055 lb-ft of torque, this S-Class is made for speed. Weighing in at just over, 2600 kg, the S 63 E Performance can accelerate as quickly as a fully electric car. And it does get 33 kilometres of electric range.
Active steering, multiple drive modes, active anti-roll bars, Gab underlines the many capabilities of this hybrid S Class. It can be as comfortable as a limo when its cruising on the highway, but when the driver demands more performance on twisty roads, the various systems and chassis features all work together to provide a sportier experience.

Finally, Gab also points out that many interior and exterior features put the S 63 E Performance apart from other S Class models.
LP had the chance to drive Subaru's contribution to the compact car segment, the 2024 Impreza. This year, the Japanese brand brings back the RS badge, which comes with the Crosstrek's 2.5-litre engine, hence bringing more power and torque to this vehicle that isn't particularly recognized for its performance. LP points out that the Subaru Impreza RS delivers enough power in most situations, but also underlines the capabilities of the continuously variable transmission (CVT) which makes a very good pair with the engine (and that's not often the case with these transmissions). The Impreza also proved to be a good highway cruiser, with a suspension that provides adequate comfort on rough terrain. Once again, Subaru has added more insulation inside the cabin in order to make it quieter and to provide a more comfortable experience for the occupants.
