2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV: The Pinnacle of German EV Opulence

Mercedes-Benz continues to expand its electric SUV lineup with today’s introduction of the most luxurious model you’ll find wearing the German automaker’s badge. That’s because the 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV 4MATIC is the first to be branded as a Maybach product.

We got an exclusive opportunity to take a closer look and sit inside the vehicle while attending the media launch of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV recently.

Extravagant Looks

As you can see on the pictures, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is anything but subtle. It starts with an available two-tone exterior finished in high-quality paint, with smooth transitions from one colour to the other.

The front fascia emulates the signature Maybach grille with vertical slats, while the 21- and 22-inch wheels on the sides are much different from those on the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.

There’s literally a myriad of Maybach logos on the body as well as inside the cabin, where the lounge-style individual rear seats recline just like the first-class seats on a plane. A champagne cooler in the centre console is optional.

Up front, the highlight of this electric SUV is the all-digital MBUX Hyperscreen combined with a Burmester 4D premium sound system.

Impressive Specs

The 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV 4MATIC uses dual motors producing a combined 649 horsepower and 701 lb-ft. of torque. It might weigh over 2.5 tons, but 0-100 km/h acceleration can be achieved in just 4.4 seconds.

The battery feeding those motors has a capacity of 108.3 kWh and enables a WLTP-estimated range of 600 km. That’s impressive, too, but remember that North American ratings are typically lower.

Drivers can expect fantastic ride quality in addition to surprising manoeuverability courtesy of rear-wheel steering, a technology that can pivot the rear wheels up to 10 degrees for a smaller turning radius.

Built in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV 4MATIC will go on sale in Canada sometime in the fourth quarter of 2023. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
