2011 Sonata to Include Turbo, Hybrid Models
Hyundai’s new Sonata might be able to improve upon its precursor based on its looks alone, it would appear that Hyundai doesn’t want to leave anything to chance. Announcing that the 2011 Sonata would be available with a trio of engines, Hyundai seems to keen to capture a healthy chunk of the much-sought after mid-size sedan marketplace.
The first, a basic 2.4 litre four cylinder, will underpin the base Sonata with 198 horsepower and an impressive 35 miles per gallon. Definitely a potent and frugal powerplant, it’s nothing compared to what Hyundai has in store for the upper echelons of the Sonata range. Surprising critics with word that an expected performance oriented model of the Sonata will come equipped with a turbocharged four cylinder, possibly the biggest news from Korea’s most successful automaker is the announcement of a hybrid drivetrain. Although details are as yet unreleased, Hyundai has specified the usage of lithium polymer batteries in the hybrid to save weight and increase effectiveness. Expect full disclosure to come at the New York auto show.
