The Best Midsize Cars of 2023
Midsize sedans make great family cars, but too many families now prefer to turn to SUVs and pickups. Automakers have eliminated a number of models in recent years, and few remain. Which one is the best money can buy for 2023?
The Car Guide has gathered its team of experts to identify the top three picks. Check them out right here!
1. Toyota Camry
Canada’s best-selling midsize sedan is also the best buy in the segment. Available with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, a 3.5-litre V6 or a hybrid powertrain, the Camry is a car for everyone. All-wheel drive is optional with the base engine, too.
For a sportier appearance, there’s the Camry TRD, which looks nothing like past generations. An updated Nightshade Edition is in store for 2023, featuring black accents and bronze-coloured wheels. All models now get Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+.
Overshadowed by the popular Outback, the Subaru Legacy is a well-kept secret. Refreshed for 2023, this midsize sedan benefits from an upgraded EyeSight safety system, as well as available wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Under the hood, the naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine delivers decent performance, but the real kicker is the turbocharged 2.4-litre mill producing 260 horsepower–at the expense of fuel economy, of course.
Unlike Toyota and Honda, Subaru does not offer a hybrid variant of the Legacy. On the other hand, all-wheel drive comes standard and proves excellent in tough winter conditions.
3. Honda Accord
We have yet to test drive the completely redesigned 2023 Accord as we speak, but even the outgoing model is good enough to land in third place here.
Whether in gas-powered or hybrid configuration, the Accord stands out with pleasant handling and good performance.
