Polestar 2 Power Upgrade Now Available as Cheaper Standalone Option
Just as it promised last spring, Polestar today is releasing a standalone option that substantially boosts output of its 2023 Polestar 2 electric sedan, more specifically the dual-motor variant.
The option adds 67 horsepower and 15 lb-ft. of torque to the existing 402 hp and 487 lb-ft., for a total of 476 hp and 502 lb-ft. And because it is software-based, the boost in performance can be downloaded directly to the vehicle without a trip to a Polestar service point.

Previously, the power upgrade was only available as part of the Performance Pack, which also includes adaptive Öhlins dampers, new 20-inch forged alloy wheels, Brembo brakes and unique seat belts. Customers have to pay nearly $7,000 for this package. To unlock extra power, they can now spend just $1,595.
Polestar insists the option is a one-time cost “delivering exceptional value without the hassle of a subscription,” likely taking a jab at Mercedes-Benz which offers a similar performance upgrade in the form of a 12-month subscription at $900.
In the case of the Polestar 2, what difference does it make? The company claims 0-100 km/h sprints take 4.42 seconds instead of 4.8 seconds, while passing manoeuvres from 80-120 km/h are quicker, as well, going from 2.9 seconds to 2.2 seconds. The additional power and torque are primarily felt at speeds between 70-130 km/h, Polestar says. As you can see on the picture above, drivers can track performance data via the centre display.
As a reminder, the 2023 Polestar 2 starts at $53,950 in single-motor configuration and $58,950 in dual-motor configuration. Each one qualifies for federal and provincial EV rebates. Maximum range is rated at 435 km and 418 km, respectively.
What’s more, an upgraded mechanical heat up (part of the $5,700 Plus Pack) is designed to now deliver range improvements in a wider range of temperatures, from -7 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius. A future over-the-air update will upgrade existing Polestar 2 cars equipped with the heat pump, free of charge.
