2023 Honda Civic Type R to Cost Over $50,000, Likely Even More
It’s now official: the all-new 2023 Civic Type R has topped $50,000. Honda Canada today announced pricing details for the hot hatch that will start to arrive in dealerships this Friday.
The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price is set at $50,050. When including the $1,780 destination charge (pretty reasonable if you compare with what other companies are charging), the actual cost is $51,830.

This represents an increase of nearly $4,000 from the 2021 Civic Type R’s base price. Remember, there was no 2022 model.
"The 2023 Civic Type R is the most powerful, thrilling and fun-to-drive Civic in our history,” said Steve Hui, Assistant Vice President at Honda Canada, in an attempt to justify the price. "The all-new Type R embodies the very best in Honda engineering while embracing our challenging spirit and leveraging years of proven racing technology."
The company did not specify the number of units that will be available across the country, however. Based on information tipped by an anonymous Honda Canada employee back in July, a mere 546 units will reportedly be allocated for the entire 2023 through 2025 model years. Don’t waste any time making a reservation—and prepare to pay more than the MSRP given the very limited supply.
315 Horsepower
Whether yours come in Championship White, Sonic Gray or Rally Red, the new 2023 Civic Type R will gift you with 315 horsepower—the same output as the Volkswagen Golf R—and 310 lb-ft. of torque. Honda engineers have redesigned the 2.0-litre four cylinder’s turbocharger, increased air intake flow rate and fitted a new, more efficient exhaust system that features a straight-through design and an active exhaust valve.
Cooling is improved, while the six-speed manual transmission benefits from a lighter flywheel and a revised rev-match system for smoother downshifts, not to mention a high-rigidity shifter and optimized shift gate pattern for more precise gear changes.
Furthermore, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is aided by a significantly stiffer body structure, an extended wheelbase and much wider tracks. Together with a retuned dual-axis strut front and multilink rear suspension, these changes improve straight-line stability and steering feel, Honda claims. Let’s not forget the 20mm wider, bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
We can’t wait to slide into the new, lighter, body-stabilizing sport seats and push the 2023 Type R to the limit (or at least try to) on a track. Stay tuned for our first-drive review!
